So I started my internship this week and I love it!! I work ever day from 9-1, and it takes me about 45 minutes from when I leave my house. I get there by walking/taking the bus. The place I work at is called UDAI and it is funded by the government for families who cannot afford to go to a hospital or a private clinic. In the building I work at there are a few dentists, physical therapists, physiologists, speech therapists, and a few other specialists. The speech therapist who I am working with right now in my opinion is getting a little to old and a little to grumpy and a little to impatient to be working with young kids who have speech problems. So right now I am learning what not to do as a speech therapist but next week I will be shadowing someone different so I am sure it will be a different story. The pictures below are of the inside of the clinic and the inside of the room that I work in.
The room I work in.
The view from the room I work in.
I am not sure If I have already posted these pictures but if not this is the outside of the building I live in its a pretty nice building but defiantly in a good and central location it is about a 15 minute walk from my school 20 minute walk away from the mall and supper close to about 50 hair salons and bread stores. So the family I am staying with consists of a mom whose name is Sandra she is about 33 and is an interior designer and her daughter Camila who is 14. They are both really nice and supper including with everything that they do. They also know English very well, they learned because they got bored of watching all of the Spanish soap operas and wanted to watch American tv. It's really nice that they know English because then I don't have to look in my dictionary every other word I can just ask them and how to say it in Spanish and they know exactly what I am talking about.
This is view from the outside of my building down the street, and its kind of hard to see but that furthest white building in the back is where I catch the bus.
This is another view of my street just the opposite direction.
Here is a picture of my room, its simple but I like it and its much easier to keep clean then my room at home because I was only allowed to bring so many clothes.
The living room.
View from the kitchen.
The kitchen/laundry room/grandmas room. The grandma doesn't stay at the house very much but when she does I guess she sleeps in the room on the right hand side before the washing machine. In Ecuador it is also extremely uncommon for families to have a dishwasher and also a drier. So they wash all the dishes by hand and hang dry their clothes.
Something I noticed the first day I went to the store here is that they don't refrigerate ANY of their eggs.. I have never seen that but I hope its safe because I have eaten them.
Something else that was a first for me was putting popcorn in your soup which a lot of people do here and it was actually pretty good :)
And last but not least I went to the park today and there were guys doing some pretty cool tricks on bikes, roller blades and skate boards. I'll try to put something up every Sunday and I hope that everyone has a great week :)
Love Madison.

Looks great Madison. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the interesting photos.
ReplyDeleteSo fun to see your world! Dint worry the eggs are fine - only Americans refrigerate them (ever notice how baking recipes call for room temperature eggs?). Also popcorn in soup ... Kinda like posole!
